Hey this is an easy answer, first of all I'm saved, been baptized under water, and baptized with the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tounges. now the question is about be saved,
THE BIBLE TEACHES( and lets let the Word of God be our final answer )
Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
You put your faith in Christ, when Holy Spirit deals with you of your sins, and you see your need that if you don't come to Christ, repent, then you would die, without Christ in an eternity without God,
"By grace are ye saved through faith it is the gift of God..." The Lord gives you what you don't deserve.
Notice it says through faith, when we put our trust and confidence in God to save us from our sins, we are saved.
We repent when the Lord deals with us, We see our need for the Lord to save us, we call upon Him Lord I repent, come into my heart save me of my sins, I put my trust and confidence in you.
Bible says .. For Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Romans 10:13 ( look it up)
NOW ACTS 2:37-38, Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? v. 38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Now here are some notes you may not like these, but please do read them
.
Being baptized by the authority of Jesus Christ to a Jew meant giving up Judaism and all fellowship of his nation with all his political rights and priviledges.
the word "for" Greek.is eis, because of remission of sins. When one repents, which is always required in Scripture before baptism, he is immediately forgiven ( 1John1:9) ( Romans 10:9-13). Then, and then only is, one a fit candidate for water baptism which is an outward symbol of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ ( 1 Peter 3:21). It testifies to the world that one has already repented and been forgiven by faith in Christ. (Eph.2:8-9; Rom. 1:16; Rom. 3:24-25; Rom. 5:1).
Water baptism is an outward sign to the world of what has happened already inwardly in you.
So water baptism isn't essential for salvation,
(Don't quit reading yet) Here are examples in the Bible, where people were forgiven without water baptisem to show that water baptism doesn't save people from sins, it is through faith in the blood of Christ.
The Penitent thief on the Cross
Luke 23:42-43 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. v.43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.
But that is only an exeception? God don't make exeptions He is the judge of all judges.
The man with Palsy
Matthew 9:1-8: Read it It is a great one! v.5 Jesus said... For wheter is easier to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say , Arise, and walk? v.6 But that ye may know that the Son of man, hath power on earth to forgive sins,( then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house. v.7 And he arose, and departed to his house
Jesus showed that he could forgive sins by healing this man, (Notice the man with palsy was forgiven of sins without baptism)
The woman who anointed Jesus' feet
Luke 7:36-50 Read it.. v.39, the pharisees said this woman is a sinner. and in V. 50 Jesus said to the woman Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.
Now who is going to try to go against what Jesus said, If she is forgiven without water baptism, then she is forgiven.
Parable of the Pharisee and the Publican
Luke 18:9-14 the Publican who was praying said in v.13 God be merciful to me a sinner. Jesus said in v.14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justifed rather than the other...
He went home justified, saved. Romans 3:24 about being justified, and it says ... Being justifed freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. SO HE WENT HOME JUSTIFIED, IN RIGHT STANDING WITH GOD WITHOUT WATER BAPTISM.
Zacchaeus
Luke 19:1-10 Zacchaeus in the sycamore tree, Jesus tells him to come down ... V. 9 And Jesus said unto him This day is salvation come to this house, ...
Salvation came to Zacchaeus' house without water baptism.
John 8:30-32 As he spake these words, many believed on him. v.31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed. And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
John 11:45 Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.
John 12:11 Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus. Just like what we do, we repent of our sins, and believe on the Lord, and put our faith and trust in Him.
what about when John the baptist baptized the people in Matthew 3:11, I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance;...
But do you realize that they had to repent first! Matthew 3:8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance. So baptism is an outward sign of what has happened already.
Acts 2:38 they had to repent first once they repented they were forgiven of sins. then they are baptized for an outward sign for every one to see that they are confessing Christ. So baptism didn't save them it was when they repented.
Acts 9 Remember when Saul(Paul) on the road of Damascus, was a sinner, then gets saved. Ananias calls Him BROTHER SAUL in v.17... recieve sight and be filled with the Holy Ghost. And even in Acts 22:13-17, He is called a brother before baptism to show that He is a brother in Christ before baptism.
Acts 2:38 was the normal pattern in the book of Acts, they would repent. then after repentance , they would be water baptised, then after water baptism they would be fire baptized in the Holy Ghost.
But then you must know in Acts 10:44-48, that Cornelius' household ... says.. the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.(baptism of the Holy Ghost) v.45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. v. 46 For they heard them speak with tounges, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, v.47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? v.48 And He commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry ceratin days.
So you see that they believed the word(Acts11:17) THey were saved. Then the baptism of the Holy Ghost fell they heard them speak with other tounges, then they were baptized in water.
Acts 2:38 teaches repent. once we repent of our sins were saved! Then we get baptized under water for an outward sign to everyone of what has happened inwardly already in our hearts, when we put our faith and trust in Christ. then the gift of the Holy Ghost( Baptism of the Holy Ghost). and we can see that in Acts 10 though that it always doesn't go to that way of the formula in Acts 2:38. But we do notice that ONE MUST BE SAVED BEFORE THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY GHOST.
SO IF YOU REPENTED YOU ARE SAVED AND A CANDIDATE FOR THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY GHOST. THAT IS WHAT JESUS TAUGHT.
John 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him; but ye know him; for he dwelleth in you, and shall be in you.
So you can't recieve the baptism of the Holy Ghost until you repented of your sins, . And it is by grace that ye are saved through faith when you repent. And the Bible teaches The Father, The Son, The Holy Ghost, Trinitarian.
